growing instructions
How to Plant
Plant the crown (area where the stem and the roots divide) of your Clematis about 3" below the soil line.
Provide supports as soon as your Clematis is planted to help it flourish.
If planting more than one Clematis, space at 4-6' apart.
Where to Plant
Zones 4-9.
Clematis likes to have its roots shaded, but its foliage likes up to six hours of sun. Pick a location that will best accommodate a little of both, sun and shade. Mulching is a great way to help keep the roots cool.
When to Plant
Plant any time after the last spring frost and before fall’s first one, with the exception of the heat of summer. Exceptionally hot days will hinder your plant's ability to establish well.
Additional Care Instructions
Clematis loves a good feeding schedule! Provide a 5-10-10 fertilizer in the spring and alternate with 10-10-10 every 4-6 weeks through the growing season for healthy foliage and an abundance of blooms.
Water regularly, especially during the hottest times of the year.
After Initial Blooms
To encourage a second round of flowering, simply prune stems back to large buds or strong side shoots after the initial round of blooms have died back.
